How to Make a Rotisserie Chicken Greenhouse
Using everyday items to enhance your gardening creativity is fun. Here is an idea sent to us by one of our loyal NoDampOffTM seed starting medium fans that utilizes a used rotisserie chicken container from the supermarket. This one comes from Costco, but most supermarkets send their rotisserie check home with a similar and useable container.
What you will need:
NoDampOffTM Seed Starting Medium – 222 cu in bag
Rotisserie chicken take home container with dome lid (bottom at least 3 inches deep)
Three cups of water
Gloves
Your favorite seeds to start indoors for spring planting. (We like to do this project with herbs.)
Directions: (See photos below)
- Wash the container thoroughly after it is emptied of the delicious chicken.2. Fill the bottom of the container with NoDampOffTM seed starting medium to about ½ inch from the top of the bottom section of the container. NoDampOffTM is our 100% organic seed starter – the Ultimate in Seed StartingTM.
- Pour approximately three cups of tap water into the NoDampOffTM.
- Mix the water into the NoDampOffTM until the medium is completely saturated. Pour off any water that is not absorbed in to the medium. Depending on the size of the container, you may need more or less water. (Remember to wear gloves when working with soils and mosses.)
- Lay your seeds on top of the wet medium. We are using pea seeds in this demonstration, but you can use any seed that you plan to start indoors for your garden this spring.
- Push the seeds into the medium or sprinkle dry NoDampOffTM over the seeds to a depth recommended on your seed packet.
- Snap the cover on the container bottom and place in the sunlight. The dome and wet medium creates an ideal environment for seed starting. Condensation on the dome from the wet medium and sunlight will keep the germinated plants wet during the germination period. You may want to apply some water soluble fertilizer when the plants reach about 2-3 inches in height.
